Apprenticeship FAQ
General FAQ
A: No catch. We believe that education should be accessible and equitable. People should be able to advance in their career, however that looks for them. Clients should receive responsive, consistent care and meet with clinicians they relate to. To do this, we felt that offering education at no cost to participants, funded by grants, is the best path to accomplish this mission.
Future Participants FAQ
A: Most of our classes are online and a mix of synchronous (live component via Zoom) and asynchronous (completely online and self-paced). Each of our program pages covers what this might look like under the Related Training Instruction (RTI) section. You will also be informed of any online live commitments during the application process.
A: There are no required in-person components to any of our programs. We offer optional Study Halls several times a year if you would like to meet with other participants or your Program Manager in person at our office in NW Portland.
A: QMHA and CADC apprenticeships do not require any prior experience. Other programs, such as QMHP, require a Bachelor’s degree, as it is a Master’s-level program. Each of our program pages has an eligibility list with more details. Please feel free to apply if you are interested, and we can help guide you on the requirements needed to enroll.
A: For most of our programs, employment with a training agent or employer partner is a requirement. If you apply for a job with one of our partners and receive an offer letter, we would love to talk about enrolling you in one of our programs. If you are looking for work and curious about what positions might be available, please email us at info@unitedwehealoregon.com.
Current Participants FAQ
A: For most of our programs, no. If, for any reason, you can’t continue, you will not need to pay back United We Heal. You can also use the education and experience in the future to still count towards your certification.
For the QMHP Apprenticeship, if an apprentice exits the program after the set drop deadline for their program, for a reason not approved by the Board of Trustees, they may be required to pay UWH for any tuition or fees that have been accrued for that term.
A: If you move to a position in an organization that is a signed training agent (or wants to become one), you can continue in the program. If you move to a position with an agency that wants to become a training agent, you will be put on leave until that agency’s registration is complete. All apprentices must be employed with a registered training agent in order to remain in an active status
If you are no longer employed with one of our partners, we will work with you in every way that we can to keep you enrolled, but ultimately, you may need to exit depending on the situation.
A: No. ApprentiScope is there to help you keep track of the hours you’ve completed with UWH that you will use toward certification. The important thing is that you keep your logs up to date on current work and education, and keep personal records of previous work/education to submit to MHACBO when you are done with the program.
A: Yes. All potential apprentices can refer; however, United We Heal cannot guarantee employment with a training agent.
A: Contact your program manager to be put on a leave of absence. You can take leave for up to six non-consecutive months.
